Oxford/Labor Day Weekend

Philip, Kade, and I packed the car and headed to Oxford for the weekend.  We got to the condo Friday night and grilled out with Lovie and Johnny B.  Kade was so excited to be there!  He even got to watch a movie.

We got up Saturday and spent the day watching movies and getting ready for the big game.  After nap time, we got ready and took Kade to the grove.  This was his first trip to the grove, and I think he was a little overwhelmed.  We got to see the football players walk through and heard the band play.  We went to our friends' tent and it was after about 10 minutes that Kade asked when we were going home.  I tried to distract him with cookies and cheetos.  It seemed to work.  Kade got brave and started getting his own food after that.

Before we headed to the game, we went to the M Club house with Lovie and Johnny B.  We got to visit with some of Ole Miss's past athletes and eat some yummy food.  We also showed Kade the Manning room.

The Manning Room

After a good supper in the M Club, we headed to our seats and watched the game.  Kade loved watching the football players and hearing the band.  We even talked about how pretty the cheerleaders were (they had on sequins which made them REALLY pretty).  :)  The Rebs won the game, so we went home happy.

On Sunday we decided we would stay an extra day in Oxford since we didn't have school on Monday.  Phil, Kade, and I went to one of our favorite places, Ya-Ya's frozen yogurt for an early snack and then to Soulshine for supper.  We ate some yummy pizza and played around with the new app on the phone.  We took some fun pictures with some different settings.  Kade even got in on the action.  Enjoy.

The fun wasn't over in Oxford.  Monday morning Philip and I put a Curious George movie on the TV and let Kade watch it while we cleaned.  Well, Kade wasn't watching.  Philip and I kept hearing noise downstairs in the kitchen.  When I walked down to see what it was, I saw a sweet little face with several pots and pans out on the kitchen counter.  He had his head in a drawer.  When I asked him what he was doing, he said, "I'm making wheap honey pie."  Philip and I quizzed him later to find out what exactly was in a wheap honey pie, and he said salsa, chocolate, butter, sticks, and bugs.  I have no idea where he came up with this, but I love it!

Kade and I dropped off Philip at Ole Yazoo and headed home for a much needed nap.  Once he was up, we got Max and then played outside at home.  We enjoyed the last few hours of this wonderful holiday.  Happy Labor Day from the Buchanans!

Isaac

Hurricane Isaac is among us today.  We went to bed last night with some pretty big wind and rain.  Needless to say, school was cancelled in our area due to power outages and wind/flooding damage.  I have to admit that I have enjoyed having a day off.  It's hard getting back into the swing of things when you've had a summer to sleep in.  Anyway, this morning Philip and I were in our room when we heard some banging around in Kade's playroom.  A few minutes later we were presented with the ultimate super heroness.  Kade already had on his batman pj's and he added a few other super hero accessories.  I have to say I giggled a little when he walked in.  I made him take a picture, of course, so I could share with everyone else.

Kade has also had a fun time watching the Disney channel this morning.  There is a cartoon with Mickey, Donald, and all the other Disney characters that K just LOVES.  His favorite is Donald.  He says that Donald Duck is funny.  Whenever he comes on the TV, Kade freezes and just stares and laughs.  I still find it amusing to see Kade laugh at the TV screen.

Not sure what the rest of the day holds for us here at home, but I'm excited about the upcoming weekend in Oxford.  We're all headed up north tomorrow afternoon for the first football game of the season.  There will be many pictures to add to the blog in a few days.  Hotty Toddy and happy hurricane day!

the letter A

Well, we have  been back in school for two and a half weeks.  I have been so busy with new kids, back to school nights, and everything else that comes along with a new school year.  I haven't had time to record what's going on with little man.  Kade is learning to write at school (craziness) and so I tried to make him do it at home.  I managed to get a picture of him and his A's that he learned to write.  He also copied his name.  I am so proud of him.  I can't wait to see what letter he learns next!

The most perfect A's I've ever seen.
hilarious face, Philip wrote his name at the bottom and Kade copied it above his

Last day of summer vacation

I wish I could say that Philip, Kade, and I are living it up one last weekend before school starts back in somewhere like St. Martin or even Destin, but we aren't.  Kade and I started our day at FPDS.  Kade has been such a big helper this week.  He has helped me and several other teachers with some busy work that needed to be done.  You know, moving empty boxes into the hallway and marching down the hallway with a noise maker.    He did enjoy himself and we even had a picnic in my room.  After a few hours of working we headed home where we took a nap and waited on daddy to get home for a little swimming at our neighborhood pool.  Since we have been watching the Olympics, we had a friendly family beach ball volleyball game.  I admit, the competitiveness came out and Kade said I was hogging the ball.  A small storm got us out of the pool and we headed home for a little grill out.  Kade played in the backyard with Max and watered the plants.  I am sad that these are the last few days of summer, but I have enjoyed every second with my little man.  Next summer we will be preparing to send him to kindergarten.  Tears.

My baby has grown up so much.

And now he's a "man" as he tells people.

Kade's favorites

Ok, so it's not a secret to everyone that I'm a pinterestaholic.  I love it and the ideas that other people have come up with.  Their ideas have made me creative.  One thing I found last year was a "favorites" list for your child as he grows up.  Every year you ask what his favorites are and see how they change, or don't change, over the years.  I wrote down Kade's favorites last year in book.  This year I thought I would share with the two people that look at my blog.  :)

Kade's favorites age 4 :

color: green & blue

food: spaghetti

vegetable: carrots

fruit: grapes & bananas

toys: trains & matchbox cars

movie: Avengers (this is actually the 70s cartoon of super heroes, but he thinks it's the Avengers) & Transformers (once again the 70s cartoon version)

TV show: Thomas the Train & Curious George

sport: soccer

dessert: Rocket cake ???  No idea where that came from

Ice cream flavor: peanut butter

team: Ole Miss

Clothes: Curious George shirt, Ole Miss gear, and comfety cozies (gray shorts & a worn out t-shirt)

Restaurants: Beagle Bagel & Zaxbys

Place to go: Ole Yazoo & Oxford & Marmie's house (he loves to climb in her pillows on her bed and hide behind them while watching a little Curious George)

Thing to do: play with trains, building forts, playing in the pool, riding in his Jeep, riding his bike, and playing with daddy

These are the answers that I got from Kade.  To be honest, I was surprised with several of his answers, but this is what he gave me.  I would say that I can't wait to see what his answers are as a 5 year old, but I don't want him to grow up anymore.  I love the age where he is now.  He is independent and verbal beyond what I imagined he would be.  He even counts by 10s now and can count all the way to 100 by ones.  :)  Leaving this post with a picture of my guy in front of one his favorite restaurants.

Cool July night

Katie, Philip, and Jackson invited us over to their house along with several of their neighbors and their kids.  One of the neighbors had this perfect four year old sized water slide and brought it for the kids.  Most of the kids were Kade's age, and were boys.  Needless to say, he had a blast.  It was a perfect night.  It started out overcast and thundering, but ended up cool and breezy.  No rain.  We will definitely have to go back and play with Kade's new friends again soon.  Oh yeah, that reminds me, every time Kade meets new friends he makes you count ALL of his friends and include the new ones.  He likes seeing how many friends he has and says how much he loves them.  Sweet guy.

Kade's pictures...

So, as I've mentioned before, Kade has really started to love taking pictures of stuff with my camera in my phone and my regular camera.  I have to say that he's quite good, and has some artisticness to them.  One day I will figure out how to get my pictures from my phone on to the blog, but until then I'll just stick with the camera.  Here are two he took...

Children's museum

Yesterday we met Katie, Jackson, Marmie, Daddy Bobby, Silas, and Sunny at the Children's Museum.  Kade had a blast with his cousin and Silas.  They took turns fishing, shopping for fruit, climbing, well you get the picture.  I'll explain in the pictures.

Kade, Silas, and Jackson all playing with the John Deere and makin the balls go up & down the shute.

Time to milk the cow.  It REALLY does, except it's water.  But still...

Kade & Silas becoming food and entering the mouth.  This shows how food enters/leaves your body.  With the noises your body makes.  YUCK!

This is the "food" leaving the body.  See the potty?

Jackson's turn

Kade's doing pull ups with barely any help...

Ok, so maybe he was climbing the wall a little & daddy bobby was helping.  A Lot.

Kade's in the top of the state capital.

This is the "I'm over taking pictures" face.

Kade tried to be the velcro by himself, but was getting no where.  So, the little guy helping got up there and put him up high.

This is my favorite picture.  Kade hated this because he couldn't get down by himself.

I love this guy!

"Look, I'm a skunk!"

"And a spider."
